About Dan Moses: Childhood
I was born in Blackpool, England on 10th October 1982.
I first discovered a love for stories as a young boy on long walks with my Pa, on the sprawling and untamed fields near where we lived. I’d always pester him for a story – after he’d made the mistake of regaling me a tale on an evening’s walk – and even if he’d been working hard all day, he’d still make the effort to come up with something to keep me amused. I was a very energetic and sometimes demanding child shall we say, and my Pa was patient beyond being a virtue.
It was during these walks when I first heard of Bramble Men lurking amongst the weeds and bushes, big green monsters made entirely of brambles and ready to pounce on any young child foolish enough to venture nearby. My Mum still swears my Pa told the tales to stop us kids messing in the brambles and nettles, and getting hurt. I think it was just my Pa’s wonderful imagination and macabre sense of humour. Either way, it didn’t keep us kids out of the bushes, nor dampen my enthusiasm for adventures in the weeds. If anything, it only served to increase them.
